Are You Open to Input From Subordinates?
Heed instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. (Proverbs 8:33).
As managers who want to grow and improve, we should be willing to learn a few lessons from our subordinates. Of course, it can be painful to hear honest feedback from the people who report to us, but they often have the clearest view of our strengths and weaknesses.
If you’re willing to take the plunge, ask your staff for three recommendations on how you can improve your leadership. Make it safe for honest feedback, listen to their comments, and do not become defensive.
If you receive consistent criticism, the feedback is probably on target. Take it to the Lord, change your behavior, and strengthen your weaknesses.
As you open your mind to constructive input – even from your subordinates – your leadership will become more effective, and your team will grow stronger.
