Create an Open Work Climate
Jesus stopped…and questioned him, “What do you want me to do for you?” (Luke 18:40-41).
Your staff may be experiencing difficulties or frustrations on the job, or they may have questions that are going unasked and unanswered. The wise manager will create opportunities for these issues to be brought forward before they fester and begin to affect the employee’s performance.
When you meet with employees one-on-one, always ask about any obstacles they are facing and if there is anything you can do to help them do their jobs better. Allow time for them to respond, and don’t rush on to the next thing until you have received an answer. Not everyone will raise concerns, but they will appreciate being asked and will value your genuine interest.
Ask the same questions at your staff meetings. Create a climate where employees feel comfortable bringing up their concerns, and they will become more open in asking for assistance. If you want to improve your staff’s performance, keep asking how you can help.
