Who Is Your Prayer Support?
Then Daniel went to his house, and made the decision known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions, that they might seek mercies from the God of heaven concerning this secret, so that Daniel and his companions might not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. So Daniel blessed the God of heaven. (Dan. 2:17-18)
In a dangerous and trying time, Daniel made use of two valuable resources: a trio of close friends who shared his faith, and prayer. Together this group of prayer partners fought a spiritual battle against despair and defeat. They enlisted divine help to understand the king’s dream or otherwise deliver them from certain death.
When you face tough times, to whom do you turn for support, encouragement, and wisdom? A natural tendency is to seek out those whom we think will have the means to help us – position, influence, power, money. But these people may not necessarily be our most valuable allies, in that resorting to them may keep us from trusting God. By contrast, a trustworthy friend or two who can offer godly wisdom and prayer support may be worth more than a dozen acquaintances with the “right” connections.
For that reason, it is important to be cultivating the kinds of friendships that will sustain us in the worst of times.
Are you making an investment in the quality of your relationships?
