As a business owner or entrepreneur, we invest long hours in our 'business'. Whether the venture is successful or not, we often feel very alone. Long before our employees come to work in the morning, and well after they go home, we are there hammering out the 'business'. At least, that has been my track record. It didn't seem to matter how many friends I had, for me, in regards to business, I felt pretty isolated. Oh yes, I subscribed to all the right magazines and journals and email subscriptions, but there was still something missing, although I didn't realize it at the time. I read the Word, prayed and gave the business to the Lord every day, not knowing that there could be more.
Then one day Liz and I were invited to join a BWAP cell. I must confess we had mixed emotions. On the one hand we were very excited, and on the other a little anxious because we didn't really know what to expect. We had led cell groups most of our Christian life, young married cells, family cells and geographic cells, but we had never been a part of a 'business cell'. We went with butterflies in our stomach.
At our first meeting, we were very warmly greeted by the other couples and made to feel right at home. Every couple had a completely different kind of business, yet as they openly shared, there was a commonality too. There was a sense of transparency without condemnation present that was liberating. There was a freedom for each couple to share their failures and successes because the room was full of support and encouragement. Because of that, Liz and I were able to put down our walls and we also shared openly.
But the part of the meeting that cemented us into the cell was when they prayed for us. There is nothing like business people praying for other business people. Prayer has been a very large part of our life and ministry, but we had never experienced anything quite like what happened that day. The power in prayer was electric. We could feel the prayers pouring strength and faith and peace into us, and the authority of those in business praying for others in business shook the heavens. We have not been the same ever since. In addition to seeing miracles happen in our lives and the lives of those in our cell with great regularity, the feeling of being alone and isolated is also gone. There is something about warring together with comrades that hammers out deep friendships, and we are enjoying that process now.
We, like you, lead busy lives, but attending the monthly business cell we are a part of is a high priority for us. It is one of the places we get renewed. Could this be what your business needs? If you ask me, if you are in business, you should be in a business cell.
